Beliefs:
In the
pursuit of our dreams Planning, Execution and Attitude are the most important
ingredients that decide the outcome. If Planning and Execution are the mind and
the body then the Attitude is like the soul that gives life to any
implementation. Without it the whole idea just snaps out to dust.
A ’’can do it’’ attitude pushes one to the
limits of endurance and when all other aspects give up on you, the one thing
that still has a chance of making it happen is your belief.
Introduction -
Born in a Telugu
Speaking family, I relished candies more than chilies. My Angel like mother's
love for kindness has made the word "Thank you" a full stop for every
conversation that I am a part of. My Father's honesty shines in my eyes. And
finally my little sister’s smile completes mine. What I am today is a result of
these qualities that i inherited.
The Story Begins –
My Life has
constantly been subjected to changes, teaching me to be adaptive to different circumstances.
Starting with my 5 years of corporate career to my pursuit of adventurous expeditions
I have cherished every bit of the “Good” or “Bad” memories that I have been
involved in.
With all the
dream driven moments of my life I take you to all the milestones that made me
realize where my next venture awaited me. So hold on to your seat belts while I
narrate the story of my life, titled “Life is a Roller coaster, you just got to
ride it”
Corporate Life:-
Fresh out of
the college without any plans or ambitions I landed myself into a job that made
my mobile beep with promotional messages from Investment Bank, advertising
their mutual funds and savings plans, honestly leading a pension dependant life
was never a part of my index page.5 years of my life with 8 + hours of
dedicated work, wearing ironed clothes and polished shoes was never something I
wanted to continue for the rest of my life. One fine day I decided to hang up
as I felt it’s not where I wanted to be.
”Unknown” Journey:-
Like everyone
else, I was preached to live a life where
I know what I know; I know what
I don’t know
But my
hunger for adventure tracked this different version
I don’t know what I know; I
don’t know what I don’t know
All of this
started when I decided to put myself to a Test
of surviving for 5 days without any Plan, Purpose and Money.
I started
off the journey from my home bidding good bye to my mother, walking off on the
roads without any destination planned, Just following all the turns that came
along, this was something that I had never done before, and importantly when
there is no money in ones pocket it makes the situation all the more intriguing.
Taking free
rides from stranger driven Vehicles was little less scary as my introduction “as a mad man with no money” was no profitable
business to anyone.
I was lucky
with one such ride when a generous Canter Driver offered to drop me to the Sultanate
of Tipu Sultan - Srirangapatnam , I
thanked the driver and the cleaner for sharing sufficient space during the
drive . While at Srirangapatnam I went on to introduce myself to some
localities around, not surprisingly my introduction and attire brought more on
lookers wanting to know about my motiveless journey, I realized that my
motiveless journey had shuddered many a bones around who felt that they too at
some part of life had wanted to do experiment a life without money. People
around me started to acknowledge my courage to follow my instincts. I stayed
and ate at homes of people that I befriended.
I was pleased with the hospitality that I was offered by all these
people, it was always difficult when I had to bid them goodbye every next mornings. I
must summarize that my journey was filled with learning, sharing and loving
people I had never met or seen before. Although challenging I still feel
nostalgic when I think how I was able to manage it for 5 days. During these
eventful days I travelled wherever destiny led me, sometimes coming back to the
same places I earlier visited.
Bangalore > Srirangapatna>Mysore>Kushal Nagar>Ranganathittu>Srirangapatnam>Bangalore
All in all I
was proud that I experienced my momentary quest for adventure.
Everest Base Camp &KalaPathar :-
While
I was still hooked on to the corporate life looking for a break to quench my
thirst for Adventure I came across an expedition to Everest Base &
Kalapathar, without any further delay I immediately enrolled for this
expedition. My first Himalayan expedition ever. There were nearly 25 of us, who
for the first time in their lives were headed to feel the snow on these huge natural
barriers, guided by a team of trained professionals.
The Day we
reached GorakShep we were exited to get the nearest glimpse of the Majestic Mt Everest. Whilst half way during this
Trek one of our colleagues suffered from high altitude sickness and was forced
to return back to civilization. But nothing dithered the excitement that we
began with and as per the plan on the first day we camped at the base of Mt Everest
and the next morning the team was to summit Kalapathar. But due to the extreme
weather conditions in the previous night majority of the Team members retired
from the Kalapathar summit plan. However 5 out of the actual count of 25
decided to go up the Mount KalaPathar and call it Summit. I still remember
holding my bottle that had ice instead of water in it, expectedly due to the
extreme cold on the mountains. Finally all 5 of us were successful in summiting
the mighty “Black Rock”, (Kalapathar).
The peak of
Klapathar(18,192 ft) provides the
most accessible point to view the peak of the Mount Everest. Standing on the
peak the first and the only thing that struck my attention was the peak of
Mount Everest. So haunting yet so beautiful was this scene, nothing seemed to
be more important than staring at this peak, as though I was clicking images of
the whole scene through my eyes. And this was it, With the Peak of Mt Everest
set still in my eyes, I cannot forget the enormity of the whole moment that
made me feel that I now knew what my next plan were.
And this climb
to Kalapathar was the spark that ignited my passion for climbing mountains.
There were no more Stop signals, no more confusions , no more calculations all
I knew was I am going to pursue my passion even further, Ready to limits that has scared the most
daring of humans in the history of mankind.
Destiny :-
With this
ignited fire for mountaineering, I have been actively preparing myself for the
destiny that I choose to pursue. They say ”when
you know what you want you should also know how to get it”. With that
belief I started to research further and train myself to become a professional
Mountaineer as this is one sport where one requires immense experience to face
the most dreadful situation on such inhuman terrains, where giving up becomes
even more difficult than the pursuit.
Guidance :-
As the
strangest Secret of eventuality dictates ”to
get something you must desperately want it” I had my first share when the
right booster to my passion came in the form of Colonel
Neeraj Rana Founder of "Ocean to Sky" a leading Indian
expedition company, involved in a number of mountain climbing expeditions
With a
Profile worth a portrait, Col.
NeerajRana (Principal Of Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling )

One of the
most noteworthy expeditions of Col.NeerajRana has been the "Mission
Everest" organized by the National Geographic Channel in the year
2002 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the first Everest Summit (conquered
by Sir Edmund HillaryandTenzing Norgay in the year 1953) . The whole expedition had
been aired on the National Geographic with the intention of lightning the
spirit of exploration and adventure into the lives of common people. And true
to its intentions this Mission had been successful when all the feet reached
the peak of Mount Everest.
Backed with
such an experienced team whose guts and glory is difficult if not impossible to
match. We will be climbing the Everest
via the south col from Nepal following
the footsteps of Sir Edmund Hilary andTenzing Norgay inspiring us
all along to the peak.
Trainings :-
Personally I
have been preparing intensively to climb the Everest, for which I will need to
be at the height of my physical endurance so as to ensure that my body is
prepared for the crucifying Conditions at different altitudes. My”pit stop” for these trainings are
being handled by some of the leading sports specialists in Bangalore

Route to Climb
En Route to the Mount Everest
1: Trekking from Lukla to Mt Everest Base Camp.
2:Acclimatization (Getting accustomed to the climate) happens at the Base Camp for a couple of Weeks.
3: Trainings,Ice Craft, Ladder Crossing, Instructions on proper usage of Oxygen Regulators, a Revision of Do’s & Don’ts during the climb.
5: Climb to Camp 1 and return back to the Base camp (Getting our body used to the thin Oxygen levels, this exercise is repeated a few times).
6: Climb to Camp 2 and return back to the Base camp (This exercise is repeated a couple of times).
7: Climb to Camp 3 and return back to lower camps (camp1 or camp2) and then Base camp.
8: After proper & sufficient acclimatization climbers will begin to stay at the higher camps (Camp 1, Camp 2 & Camp 3).
By now The “Summit
Window” would’ve been announced and climbers are allowed to start climbing
towards the summit.
9: Climbers reach Camp 4, the stretch from Camp 4 to the tip of Mount Everest is famously known as the Death Zone. Climbers typically only have a maximum of two or three days that they can endure at this altitude for making the summit bids.
10: From Camp 4 climbers begin their summit push around midnight with hopes of reaching the summit within 10 – 12 hours. Climbers first reach “ The Balcony “, at 27,600ft, a small platform where they can rest and gaze a few peaks in the early light of dawn. Later they reach a small table sized dome of Ice and snow marks “The South Summit”. As a task of final challenge climbers will have to climb a 40 foot rock wall famously known as “The Hillery step”, at 28,740 feet. Once above the Hillery Step, it is comparatively an easy climb to the Top with moderately angled snow slopes.
11: Climbers usually spend less than half an hour on the summit to allow time to descend to Camp 4 before darkness sets in, to avoid the serious drastic whether changes that can take place at this altitude and also taking into consideration the limitations of an Oxygen tank.
