In Gestational surrogacy which is more prevalent amongst the child seeking couple, the intended mother due to some medical complications is termed unfit to carry a child in her womb, In such cases through IVF -In Vitro Fertilization, the process of transferring the "Embryo" to the chosen surrogate mother is carried out.  Embryo is created using the egg of the intended mother and the sperm of the intended father under the clinical roof. The surrogate mother would then carry and deliver the baby under a mutually signed agreement. The resulting child is genetically related to its parents while the surrogate mother has no genetic relation to the child born from her womb.

The process of surrogacy is instigated when a childless couple approaches the IVF – equipped hospital for details about their possible options of surrogacy to have a child.  The hospital is explains to the couple of all the medical and legal procedures involved in this process.  Once the couple agrees to the process and with all legal procedures completed, they are now allowed to choose a surrogate from a pool of surrogate mothers who have been screened by the hospital Infertologist with all essential tests required to qualify to be a surrogate.

After all the legal options have been finalized with the chosen surrogate mother , The embryo of the couple is transferred to the Uterus of the surrogate, who would then carry and nourish the child throughout her pregnancy stage till the delivery. The Delivery of the child is then carried out at the hospital with specialist doctors at their service. After the delivery the child is handed over to the couple with all necessary formalities completed.

Babies delivered by surrogates are registered with the couple’s names as their parents in all the legal documents including the birth certificate of the born child. Babies born are then handed over to the couple after providing the agreed compensation to the surrogate mother. The surrogate mother needs to be taken care of by the couple till her discharge from the hospital.
